This is the portrait of Male Giant Panda "Da Mou" visit Toronto Zoo for its 5 years project. I took lots of shot in the early morning while he was busy outside having bamboo breakfast. The female "Er Shun" is at the other side of the enclosure. She will be inseminated artificially to produce its offspring. She probably had her checkup during my visit.
Giant pandas have black fur on their ears, around their eyes (eye patches), muzzle, legs and shoulders. Good tree climbers, pandas can also swim to escape predators. Pandas use an enlarged wrist bone that looks like a thumb to grasp objects like bamboo.
Pandas eat bamboo. Since giant pandas have the digestive system of a carnivore, they do not have the ability to digest cellulose (plant matter) efficiently and thus derive little energy and little protein from consumption of bamboo.
