Description
Since 1979, Torontonians are witnessing a Solar Eclipse in the afternoon on August 21, 2017.
The celestial event occurs when the moon partially or entirely covers the sun causing the day to turn to night temporarily.
In Toronto, up to 76 per cent of the sun is expected to be covered by the rare natural phenomenon, which hit its midpoint at 2:22 p.m. Here, the eclipse began at 1:10 p.m. and is set to conclude at 3:49 p.m.
To avoid serious and permanent eye damage, sky watchers are being advised to don special solar eclipse glasses. Number 14 welder’s glass as well as solar binoculars or a pinhole camera will also do the trick. A solar filter will also be needed if you plan to photograph the eclipse.
I shot three solar eclipse shot taken at 2:30 - 2:50 pm near the Princess Fountain at CNE
